Investing in Community Solutions

Less than 1% of all climate finance goes directly to Indigenous Peoples and local communities.

Rainforest Exchange (Rx) is currently serving Indigenous Peoples and local communities in 8 different rainforests across Madagascar, Brazil and Indonesia.

Over the next two years, Rx will expand to serve communities across the seven sociocultural regions of the world, including; the Amazon-Andes, Congo Basin and Sundaland-Australasia.

As every rainforest is unique, each community has a unique set of solutions.

“Through this coalition, we will increase resources, and generate evidence to sustain the long ancestral traditions of Indigenous communities.”

Dr Myrna Cunningham, Pawanka Fund

Data Driven Approach

Applying remote sensing and AI to monitor annual changes in tropical rainforest carbon stocks.

Providing a near-real-time system to alert communities about forest disturbance events.

Recording the sounds of the rainforest to monitor bird, primate, and amphibian populations.

Vetted and advised by Indigenous scientists.

— Investing & Protecting —

In partnership, Pawanka Fund, Woodwell Climate Research Center and Health In Harmony are working alongside Indigenous peoples and local communities by investing in their solutions and using data to protect half of Earth's tropical rainforests over the next five years.

Rainforest community solutions to reverse forest loss are intersectional and holistic.
